Portfolio Management Services (PMS) are offered by SEBI-registered portfolio managers. Instead of buying units of a pooled fund, you own the shares directly in a demat account opened in your name. The portfolio manager runs a stated strategy, such as a concentrated large-cap or a mid and small-cap approach, and buys or sells on your behalf.

SEBI sets the minimum investment at ₹50 lakh, which can be cash, existing securities or both. We offer PMS strategies available where we are empanelled. Our role is to explain how different strategies behave, lay out fee structures side by side and help you decide whether PMS fits your wider portfolio at all.

Who it suits

  • Investors with ₹50 lakh or more to deploy
  • Long investment horizon of 5 years or more
  • Comfort with higher equity volatility
  • Those wanting visibility of every stock held

How PMS works

  1. 1

    Understand the strategy

We go through the manager's investment approach, portfolio concentration, past volatility and fee options with you.

  2. 2

    Complete onboarding

You sign the PMS agreement, complete KYC and a demat and bank account is set up in your name.

  3. 3

    Fund the account

You transfer at least ₹50 lakh in cash or eligible securities to start the portfolio.

  4. 4

    Manager invests

The portfolio manager builds and adjusts your holdings according to the stated strategy.

  5. 5

    Review regularly

You receive periodic statements, and we sit with you to review performance against your goals.

Why families choose it

Direct ownership

Shares sit in your own demat account, so you can see every holding and transaction.

Focused strategies

Many PMS portfolios hold fewer stocks than a typical fund, which gives a clearer investment view.

Choice of fee structure

Portfolio managers usually offer a fixed fee, a performance-linked fee or a mix, and you can compare them.

Transfer of existing shares

You can often bring in stocks you already hold instead of selling them first.

Regular reporting

SEBI rules require portfolio managers to share periodic reports on holdings and performance.

Things to know, and risks

  • A concentrated portfolio can fall more sharply than a diversified mutual fund in a weak market.
  • Fees, including any performance fee, reduce your net returns and must be understood upfront.
  • Every buy and sell in your account is a separate taxable event, which can raise your tax outgo.
  • Past performance of a strategy does not indicate how it will perform in future.
  • Exit loads may apply if you withdraw within a set period of joining.

Tax treatment

Since you hold shares directly, each sale inside the portfolio is taxed in your hands as capital gains. Under current rules, listed equity held over 12 months attracts LTCG at 12.5% on gains above ₹1.25 lakh a year, and shorter holdings attract STCG at 20%. Dividends are taxed at your slab rate. Tax rules change, so confirm with your tax professional.

For families in Tirupati

In Tirupati, PMS conversations often start after a family sells ancestral land near the growing city limits, or when a doctor or business owner has built up a large surplus over many years. Before committing ₹50 lakh or more, we meet you in person, explain what the strategy actually holds and make sure the rest of your money, including emergency funds and insurance, is already in order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum investment for PMS in India?

The minimum investment for PMS is ₹50 lakh, as set by SEBI. You can meet this with cash, existing listed shares or a mix of both. Some portfolio managers set a higher minimum for particular strategies.

How is PMS different from a mutual fund?

In PMS you own the shares directly in your own demat account, while a mutual fund gives you units of a pooled portfolio. PMS portfolios are usually more concentrated, carry different fee structures and are taxed on every trade, whereas mutual fund gains are taxed only when you redeem.

What fees do PMS providers charge?

Most PMS providers charge either a fixed management fee, a performance fee above a hurdle rate, or a combination of both. There may also be custody charges, brokerage and exit loads in the early years. We lay out these costs side by side so you can compare strategies fairly.

Can I withdraw money from PMS at any time?

Yes, you can usually withdraw partially or fully at any time, subject to the terms in your agreement. An exit load may apply if you leave within the first one to three years, and partial withdrawals generally cannot take the balance below the required minimum.

Is PMS riskier than mutual funds?

PMS can be riskier because portfolios often hold fewer stocks and follow a single strategy. That concentration can help in some periods and hurt in others. Your actual risk depends on the strategy chosen, so we explain its past volatility and holdings before you decide.

Can NRIs invest in PMS?

Yes, NRIs can invest in PMS through NRE or NRO accounts, subject to the portfolio manager accepting NRI clients and completing the required KYC. Repatriation and tax treatment differ by account type, so we help NRI families from Tirupati understand the paperwork before starting.

Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully. This page is for general information and is not a recommendation to buy any specific product.
