For many Indian families, a child's wedding is one of the largest expenses of a lifetime. Functions, gold, clothes, the venue, travel for relatives and gifts all add up. When it is not planned, families often take loans, sell land, or break into retirement savings.
We help you set a realistic budget in today's prices, project it to the likely year, and build a separate fund for it through SIPs. We also help you decide how much of the gold you want to buy over time through gold ETFs or gold funds, and how much to keep in equity and debt funds, depending on how far away the wedding is.
Who it suits
- Parents with children under 15
- Families who prefer to avoid wedding loans
- Parents who want to build gold gradually
- NRI parents planning a wedding back home
How Child Marriage Planning works
- 1
Agree a budget
We list the main heads, such as functions, jewellery, clothes and hospitality, and agree a comfortable figure in today's prices.
- 2
Project the cost
We apply an assumed inflation rate to estimate the amount needed in the likely wedding year.
- 3
Split gold and cash needs
We separate the jewellery portion from other costs and help you choose how to build each part over the years.
- 4
Build and protect
SIPs in suitable fund categories build the fund, and the money moves gradually to debt funds as the wedding year comes closer.
Why families choose it
No forced borrowing
A dedicated fund reduces the need for personal loans or selling property at short notice.
Retirement stays safe
Keeping the wedding fund separate means your own old-age savings are not touched.
Gold without locker worries
Gold ETFs or gold funds let you build the gold portion gradually, without making charges or storage concerns until you buy jewellery.
Room for both children
Separate goals for each child keep the plan fair and easy to track.
Things to know, and risks
- Buying physical gold every year for a far-off wedding means paying making charges early and keeping it safe for many years.
- Leaving the planning until the engagement usually means loans, because there is no time left for investments to grow.
- Holding the full amount in equity until the final year can hurt if markets fall just before the wedding.
- Letting the budget grow without a limit can quietly take money from education or retirement goals.
Tax treatment
Equity-oriented fund gains held over 12 months are taxed at 12.5% above ₹1.25 lakh a year. Gains on gold ETFs and gold funds, and on debt funds bought on or after 1 April 2023, have separate rules that depend on the fund type and holding period. Tax rules change, so confirm with your tax professional before you redeem.
For families in Tirupati
Weddings in Tirupati and the surrounding district are often family occasions with many relatives, and some families hold the ceremony at Tirumala or at a kalyana mandapam in the town. Gold is a central part of the celebration here. We respect that. Our role is only to help you build the money calmly over the years, so the family can celebrate without worrying about loans afterwards.
Run the numbers
Goal Calculator
Every goal has a price today and a higher price in the future. This calculator first grows today's cost by the inflation rate you choose, then works out the monthly SIP needed to reach that future amount at an assumed return. Use it for a house down payment, a wedding, a car or any goal with a date.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I save for my daughter's or son's wedding?
Start with a budget in today's prices and project it forward. As an illustration, a ₹10 lakh wedding today may cost about ₹24 lakh in 15 years at an assumed 6% inflation. The monthly SIP depends on the years left and the assumed return.
Is buying gold every year better than a SIP for marriage?
Not always. Physical gold adds making charges and storage concerns, and it does not grow like a diversified portfolio. Many families keep a gold portion through gold ETFs or gold funds, invest the rest through SIPs, and buy jewellery closer to the wedding.
Should I use my retirement savings for my child's wedding?
It is best avoided. Your child can take a loan for many needs, but nobody lends for your retirement. Keeping a separate wedding fund protects your old-age savings and your independence later in life, and it is fairer to the child too.
When should I start planning for my child's marriage?
The earlier the better, ideally 15 years or more ahead. A long runway lets you use equity funds and keeps the monthly amount small. Even with five to seven years left, a disciplined SIP can cover a good part of the cost.
Can one fund cover both education and marriage?
It is better to keep them separate. Education comes first and has a fixed date. If both goals share one fund, the wedding may be short, or education may be underfunded. Separate folios make each goal clear and easy to track.
